Diversity of Life: People, Water and Plants

The theme of Expo 2026 is derived from the harmony and balance of humans and nature, with people, water, and plants being the three key pillars showcasing the interdependence of nature as indicated through Udon Thani’s unique characteristics of multicultural richness and biodiversity; of how nature and humans, past and future, natural resources and man-made technology can co-exist in harmony and thrive off of each other.

The theme follows four UNSDGs:
Goal 2 - Zero Hunger
Goal 8 -Decent Work & Economic Growth
Goal 12 - Responsible Consumption & Production
Goal 13 - Climate Action

Each subthemes of People, Water, and Plants supports the goals moving towards sustainability using the site’s geographical uniqueness of being a wetland as a key concept, with themes highlighting the diverse geographical, biological, and social aspects of the land.

These rich fertile lands have sustained the lives of humans and nature alike for millennia, and their abundance has not only enriched our past but will serve as a steppingstone towards a sustainable future.

PEOPLE

Food security is a vital issue for the world’s future. By popularising and promoting horticultural knowledge to build towards green living and a lifelong education system, we can integrate knowledge and technology to create responsible consumption and production and to maintain the existing abundance of nature and life in order to secure sustainable resources. This will in turn solve food shortage problems while contributing to the environment and solving climate issues, as well as develop the economy and society under the concept of green living for sustainable futures.
